Welcome

Welcome to BFI Replay access management service

Replay has been created as part of the British Film Institute's National Archive Heritage 2022 Programme to widen access to the UK's rich film and TV heritage through UK public libraries.

The platform features 1000s of videos and programmes spanning six decades, from the 1960s to the 2010s.  It allows people to explore thousands of videos and films from the collections of the BFI National Archive and partner UK Regions and Nations Film Archives.

How to get access to BFI Replay in your libraries

Before you start using BFI Replay in your libraries you will need to:

Frequently asked questions

What content is available?

BFI Replay currently shows content digitised and curated as part of the Heritage 2022 Programme – more titles will be uploaded gradually on a monthly basis and we will let you know as new titles and collections are added.

BFI Replay presents stories about Britain, its history and its people - captured in some 60 years of film, television and video.

We are working with our partners including the BBC, Channel 4, ITV and other independent organisations to increase the number of films available.

Why are there content & trigger warnings

The BFI and Regions and Nations Film Archive partners have done their best to assess videos for potentially offensive, harmful or upsetting content, and to attach content and/or trigger warnings where appropriate.

However, with many thousands of hours of video on BFI Replay, we can't guarantee that all such sensitive content has been identified.

We take concerns about offensive or upsetting content very seriously, and encourage users to report anything they consider inappropriate using the online form via the REPORT THIS CONTENT link which is present on each video page.

What are public IP addresses?

Every connection to the Internet has a unique number to identify it known as a public IP address. Not every device connected to the Internet necessarily has a unique public IP address. For example, all computers in an office or library may share a single public IP address.

Why do you need to know our public IP addresses?

We ask for this information because, due to licensing restrictions, the BFI content is only being made available in public libraries and other public institutions and cannot be accessed, for example, from people’s homes. So we limit access to the service to the IP addresses of qualifying libraries.

How do I find our public IP addresses?

Your IT department or service provider should be able to give you this information. You can check it using this link https://replay.bfi.org.uk/whats-my-ip but please confirm with your IT department or service provider.

What bitrate are BFI Replay videos delivered at?

Most titles within Replay are delivered at a maximum bitrate of 2.5Mbps.
